Homeless
Children Left Longing for School Days |
In
2007, Project Connect will hold the 10th
annual Summer Program from June 11 – August 2nd.
Children, ages 5-12, from 10 homeless shelters
and/or motels in Cincinnati
and Northern
Kentucky
will be bussed to our location at Hays Elementary,
940
Poplar Street,
in the West End of Cincinnati. We expect to serve
80+ children each day, with a total of 175+ children
benefiting from our services.
Children
arrive at 9am
and stay until 3:30pm
and are
divided into three classrooms based on age (5-7,
8-9, 10-12). Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon
snack are provided to the children each day. The
theme for the program is Around the World, with
each classroom studying two continents. The morning
of each day at Hays is focused on reading activities,
while afternoons are used for enrichment activities,
trips to the pool, or other attractions. One day
per week is reserved for a field trip to places
like Kings
Island,
Paddlefest, a Reds baseball game, Brookville
Lake
and many more.
